This is just a quick blog post to let all the cool cats who live in Fitzroy and Collingwood know about Mark Dundon and Bridget Amor's new cafe on Gertrude St, Fitzroy. I had heard a long time ago down the grape vine that Seven Seeds was opening another cafe on Gertrude st, I just never knew when and where. Keeping with the tradition of naming their cafes after people who helped bring coffee to the world, this latest venture by Mark and Bridget is named De Clieu, after the French naval officer who brought coffee to the French colonies.
De Clieu officially opened yesterday (13/10/10) and when I arrived there this afternoon there wasn't a spare table in the place. Unfortunately the kitchen had already closed when I arrived, so no lunch for me. It was good to see a coffee specialist make specialty coffee more accessible to everyday folk with a retail section offering beans and simple brewing devices such as the French Press/plunger and Aeropress. 2 espressos later and a quick chat with Mark after, I was caffeinated and ready to power on in to the evening.
I have a few more blog posts lined up: the drip kettle review and one regarding espresso grinders and technology.
