Use this calculator to design your batch brew recipes. This batch brew calculator takes in to account the density differences between water at room and brewing temperatures.

It has two modes of operation, you can either start with:

  • How much coffee you want to end up with (desired brew volume) or
  • The water capacity of your brewer

To get you started, we have prefilled the calculator with values to suit a 1.25 litre Technivorm Moccamaster.

Extraction between 18 to 21% is ideal
Below 18% is under-extracted, and likely to be sour
Over 21% is over-extracted, and likely to be bitter and dry
